Normally my blog feed is lightheartedly full of beautiful babies and beautiful families and beautiful couples. Today, I steer in a different direction for something that is a little more weighty and without a doubt more meaningful. As a photographer, I take joy in working with my people, but sometimes, the job that is full of joy can be full of something else. The weight of knowingly capturing what could be some of a family’s last memories documented.
I work with a few organizations for cancer patients and do most graciously accept work with my current clients and friends when their family deals with something as weighty as terminal illness and disease. My only hope is that I can provide lasting joy and reminders of a beautiful time, when a hug was easily granted, laughter easily brought forth and for just a little while, the sadness and heaviness lifted. I hope and believe that we did that. I hope that the “B” family can look at these and all of their other photos and remember his smell, his smile, the feel of his arms around them, his laughter and his love for his family. I asked Lauren to write a little to commemorate her dad and this is what she had to say…
“Knowing that my dad wasn’t going to live much longer from pancreatic cancer, i immediately thought about doing a lifestyle shoot. You were able to capture the essence of his nature, his laugh and his love for his children, wife and grandchildren in a very short amount of time .. even when my kids were being completely uncooperative. Knowing that would be our last time ever being able to do photos together, it was even more meaningful and the photos Will be forever cherished!”
